Traumatic intubation: An under-recognized cause of dysphagia

Dysphagia is a common complaint, which can have profound impact on patient's health and quality of life. In the surgical patient, endotracheal intubation result in trauma to structures upper aerodigestive tract, may manifest as variety complaints, including dysphagia. some cases, dysphagia develop gradually over course several months following intubation, thus be misdiagnosed or mistakenly associated with other comorbid conditions. Herein, we present perplexing case prior traumatic leading development an elderly woman progressive enlargement fibrovascular lesion likely occurring through process normal deglutition. This highlights potential under-recognized cause that elude even experienced clinicians. setting without apparent etiologies, medical records should extensively reviewed for history difficult peri-intubation complaints.
